The Mystery Plant

Are you dying to know what the mystery plant is?

It is a sweet potato.

That's right. A sweet potato from my grandparents garden. They gave it to my mom, she never got around to eating it, so she stuck it in some dirt and well, it began to grow. Then she gave it to me.  And now I have a sweet potato growing in my kitchen. Like I said, edible.  Food storage.  Why not?

So I realize that this game probably wasn't entirely fair. I mean, how many other people do you suppose have sweet potatoes growing in their kitchen?  I'm gonna go out on a limb and say probably not many.  Thanks to those who played, you made some good guesses, and you gave me some good ideas for house plants if I'm ever in the market.

But probably I won't be, what with my mom giving me spider plants and sweet potatoes all the time.

I'm thinking about starting  a group called "People for the Putting of Sweet Potatoes in Dirt and Growing them in Pots in their Kitchen".  What do you think?  I bet there would be supporters out there.

Anyway, these guys are my constant reminder as we head into the less than sunny days ahead that springtime always comes back again.

    I spent an hour yesterday listening to a woman at a garden center telling us how easy it is to grow herbs in pots in the house - or the garden. She also mentioned how much cheaper it is to buy a n herb plant and then have fresh herbs in your kitchen for year to come. Many of them are perennials. She showed us some that they had at the store and they make lovely decorations because the leaves are interesting and the flowers pretty. Maybe you should add that to your sweet potato.

    Grandpa Homer (Big Grandpa) gave me the spider plant in an arrangement with also some fresh blooms, from an FTD florist near Ball State when I was a freshman for Valentines Day. I didn't know he ever thought about Valentines Day. The spider plant defied all odds and has thrived under many conditions over the ensuing years. It is a very special plant to me! I have a sweet Daddy!

Come Take a Tour

This is the longest post of all time, but that's because of all the pictures. So I know I shouldn't let myself get carried away since we still have the inspection to go, but... I feel like we've won half the battle, so I will show you pictures now. This backyard is one of the  main reasons I wanted this house.  It is on a corner lot, and it is really quite large.  It extends just as far off to the left.  Here you can sort of see the nice swingset we've inherited also, which Hallie will love as it has swings and a slide. This is the playhouse in the backyard.  It's about nine square feet inside, and has electrical set up and in the spring/summer you can tell it is landscaped.  My girls will be a little spoiled. This is the first thing you see when you walk in the house, aside from the stairs which you can barely see in the left corner.  It is a formal dining, but we may use it as a formal sitting room. Well, That Was Unexpected

I think it all really started on Monday afternoon.  My mother and I were talking about movies that we would like to see in the movie theater.  When my mom learned that my girls had not seen Frozen yet, she decided that was something we needed to do.  I looked up show times, and saw that Tuesdays are $5 movie days with free popcorn and the theater is right by my midwife's office.  The only showing we could go to was just after my appointment with her, and everything seemed to be falling into place just perfectly. We had a plan.  We were so excited about our movie date with the girls. But things don't always go according to plan, do they? Hanna got sick that night, and spent all day Tuesday asleep on the couch.  It seemed that our perfect plan was not going to happen.
