What is better than being in an outdoor hot tub, watching the skiers fly past, not a care in the world except that you are starting to get hungry and what is for dinner anyway? Better is being in the hot tub, watching the skiers fly past, not a care in the world because you know what is for dinner while the snow is falling on your head and shoulders.

Better Than?

Is there anything better than a snowy white Christmas morning, surrounded by people you love, a fire raging in the fireplace, the stockings bulging with goodies from Santa, feeling the love and miracle of the birth of Christ and rejoicing at the blessings in your life? Perhaps not.  But if there were something better, I think it would be three little girls in tutus.  Oh wait, or how about three really cute little girls in three really pretty dresses who really didn't want to get their picture taken? No. No, you're right. There is nothing better than that first thing.  Merry Christmas.

Uncle Jeff

Meet my sister's husband, Jeff. Around here he's known as Uncle Jeff, or the more popular "The Bean's Own Daddy".  He's a charmer, no doubt about that.  Last time I wrote about him on my blog it resulted in a couple of awkward misunderstandings, but we finally cleared that up and he and I are thick as thieves now.  I think. I hope.  So, eh, this time I'm just going to let the pictures do the talking.  One baby loves him.  Two babies love him. Three babies love him. Oh who am I kidding? We all love the Bean's Own Daddy.  (That's not awkward, is it?)

Sleigh Ride

Image
Just hear those sleigh bills jingling, ring ting tingling too. Come on it's lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you! Outside the snow is falling and friends are calling "yoo hoo" ...we're riding in a wonderland of snow Let's take the road before us and sing a chorus or two Giddyap Giddyap Giddyap it's grand.... just holding your hand Our cheeks are nice and rosy but comfy cozy are we. We're snuggled up together like two birds of a feather would be. Come on it's lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you. (lyrics from the Carpenter song, "Sleigh Ride"... I changed them slightly.)

Jolly Old St. Nick

We had the Annual Rose Family Gingerbread House Making Party this past weekend.  Prepare to be awed by our awesomeness.   Let's start with the Parnell's house. A job well done, wouldn't you say? What's that in the corner you ask? Let's take a closer look. Well, this little piece had excellent craftsmanship that's for sure. But to be honest, I don't think it was ever very clear what exactly it is.    We've got a little snowy one on one going here.  My money's on the yellow guy.  He looks like he's got hops. Here you see Devin and Hallie's house.  She did a remarkable job putting together a well constructed, fully functional candy home.  You can see the window air conditioning unit there, protruding from the back.  The icicles were carefully applied by Devin, and the roof was a collaborative effort between the two.  Devin used all M&M's, but Hallie spiced it up a bit with four Trix.  Moving on...  This little guy is ready for some sl

Inside "Jokes"

If you don't understand why I'm posting a picture of my fridge, read this . If you don't understand why I'm posting an upside down picture of my fridge, well... that's because it was an accident and I'm too lazy to fix it.  If you don't understand why I'm posting a picture of our foam nativity that is our yearly tree topper, read this .  If you still don't understand, read my comment in the comment section. These pictures of Hallie's hair are in response to Anna, who asked if I had ever done French braid pigtails in Hallie's hair. I never had, Anna. Until this morning, in your honor. But my sister called while I was just starting the second side, and for some reason I only collected hair from the left, and so one braid looked French, and one braid looked very Swedish. My sister said she wanted pictures. Here, pictures. And Hanna really just didn't want to get left out.

Thanksgiving is Long Gone.

Devin likes a mostly empty fridge.  He's a minimalist.  I suppose I have adopted some of that attitude, and I also feel a certain amount of pleasure in using up leftovers and seeing the shelf space open up.  Devin gets stressed when the fridge is full, because too many leftovers mean that that something might not get eaten, which means that something might get... thrown away. And that's wasteful.  My mom gets stressed out when she comes to visit wondering what she is going to eat.  A mostly empty fridge does take some getting used to, but once you become a believer there's no going back. Thanksgiving was a while ago.  We all enjoyed delicious feasts of turkey and pumpkin pie, and in our household every scrap of leftover food was eaten.  Except for some pumpkin pie filling that had to be baked in a ramekin, some frosting, some Redi-whip, and some of my sweet potato topping.  These random items sat in the fridge, day by day, as Thanksgiving moved ever farther on our calenda

Timeless

Time it took to figure out what everyone should wear, and getting that person into the appropriate outfit: 30 minutes Time it took to get hair looking picture-ready: 10 minutes Time it took to recharge the battery when we discovered it was dead: 2 hours Time it took to get the camera set up. This involved a chair on the couch and some aluminum foil: 15 minutes Time it took to abandon that plan and just put the camera on the table: 10 minutes Time it took to actually get a Christmas picture worth keeping: 30 seconds Total time it took for everything to be ready and actually happen: 2 days  Unbelievable, no?  Have I told you lately how much I love these faces?
